Knockaround Beach Clean-Up
for World Oceans Month
June 29, 2022
Here in our hometown of San Diego, the ocean means a lot. It’s part of our everyday lives, so the negative impacts of climate change and environmentally unfriendly events are readily apparent. When you go down to the beach and see pieces of trash blowing around before your very eyes, you want to do something about it!
As part of our celebration of World Oceans Month, we recently partnered with I Love a Clean San Diego and got a crew out to the Ocean Beach Pier for a fun Saturday afternoon beach cleanup! We found a slew of wild stuff, and at the end of the day the beach sure looked a lot better than when we got there. It’s amazing the difference even a few hours can make!
How can you help our oceans?
— Conserve water (ex. Turn off that tap while you’re brushing your teeth, especially during drought season.)
— Reduce pollutants (ex. Think about where you’re headed—can you bike instead of drive? That’s a healthy win-win!)
— Reduce waste (ex. Find reusables water bottles and food storage containers to cut down on all that extra plastic that comes with staying fed and hydrated.)
— Fish responsibly (ex. Only keep what you plan to eat, no more. You know what they say: all the cool kids are catch and release-ing!)
— Respect the habitat (ex. Don’t litter. Only lameo’s litter. This one is easy.)
— Volunteer for cleanups at the beach and in your community (ex. Search the internet for local outings and spend some time outdoors improving your community!)
