Dogs make most things better, and this includes coffee shop dates and work sessions. Luckily, San Diego offers dozens of pup-friendly eateries. Here are ten great San Diego coffee shops that you can enjoy with your four-legged friend.


Hawthorn Coffee

Normal Heights

Hawthorn is hands/paws down one of the friendliest coffee shops in San Diego, as well as one of the best spots to work from—especially if you have a furry friend in tow. There are indoor and outdoor seating options and lots of outlets inside. The word is out about this great place, so expect a bit of a crowd there on weekend mornings.

Genteel Coffee

East Village

Located in a newly renovated warehouse in East Village, Genteel is spacious and filled with natural light and cool hanging plants. The staff is friendly and dogs are welcome.

Krakatoa

Golden Hill

This Golden Hill favorite has a great outdoor patio that is both dog-friendly and has outlets if you want to work outside. Krakatoa serves coffee, breakfast, sandwiches, smoothies, and more.

James Coffee

Little Italy

There is plenty of room for both humans and canines at James’ Little Italy location. The “Space,” as they call it, contains a coffee shop, roaster, and several boutique shops. The coffee is great and the vibe is very laid-back. James also has a smaller location in Banker’s Hill, with a cute dog-friendly patio in front.

The Forum Coffee House

Clairemont

With lots of tables, The Forum is a great place to study or work. They also offer excellent coffee and delicious, creative drinks—all of which can be enjoyed in the company of your fur child.

Scrimshaw Coffee

El Cerrito

With a spacious, minimal interior; abundant outlets; and pup-friendly atmosphere, Scrimshaw is a great place to hang out for a couple hours. They’re open from 6am to 6pm every day.

Por Vida

Barrio Logan

Located near Chicano Park in Barrio Logan, Por Vida is a small coffee shop with a vibrant, artsy interior and a welcoming atmosphere. In addition to being dog-friendly, there are several outlets along the wall for those who are working from laptops. Por Vida has an extensive menu with unique options like spicy lemonades and horchata, dulce de leche, and marzipan lattes.

Coffee & Tea Collective

North Park

This cute, bright coffee shop is located on El Cajon Blvd. in North Park. The space is small but they have good coffee, delicious avocado toast, and dogs are welcome.

The Grounds Bean Bar

Pacific Beach

In addition to being dog-friendly, The Grounds Bean Bar is one of the Instagrammiest coffee shops in San Diego. Be sure to try their avocado toast. The Grounds is on La Playa Avenue in PB, and parking can be a bit tricky, but the décor alone makes the effort pretty worth it.

Brickyard Coffee & Tea

Downtown

Brickyard has a sizeable outdoor patio that you and your four-legged friend can hang out on together. They’re located right on the Seaport Village trolley stop; grab a coffee there and then take a stroll along the waterfront.
